HARAS DE SOU

Global Farm is since 2014 situated at the 100 hectares (200 acres) Haras de Sou, in the Orne Department, 180 kilometers west of Paris.

Around 60 broodmares here get the best possible prerequisites to give birth and health to their offspring, and the foals to grow up to competitive racehorses.

The history books tell us that the Vikings 1 200 years ago built a strong settlement here. A Viking king, Rollo, was given the area in northern France as a tribute from the French king, after a century of violent raids and looting from” the men from the north” – there we have the name Normandie. The immigrants from north for sure found this land as a paradise for agriculture, cattle and horses, and also well situated to establish trade routes.

Normandie is known to be the best area in Europe for breeding horses and the tradition as a big horse breeding center goes back for centuries. For instance, the emperor Napoleon built his armies and impressive military strength with horses from Normandie.

– Three places in the world are better than others to breed horses, Normandie, Kentucky and Ireland. The reason is the pasture. The soil contains much calcium. The period with green grass is long. Even if we humans sometimes might complain about the frequent rains, that same rain is perfect to maintain the quality of the pasture more or less the year around and that makes the horses strong and durable, says Global Farms Senior Advisor Per-Erik Eriksson.

A Normandie pasture a sunny fresh morning in May is sensational to experience: The birdsong from the bocages around the fields are extremely intense, and when the night dew lifts in the warm sunrays, you can almost sense how everything grows, and see vitamins and nutrition jump around the horses’ noses when they chew on the fantastic soft grass.

The first Global crop being born and raised at Haras de Sou was in 2014. Several top horses already have been born here: Three Group I-winners: Global Welcome, Global Badman, and Globalizer and also the very successful Global Adventure, Global Withdrawl, Global Upper Style, Global Cashflow, Global Allegiance, Global Wise Guy, and Global Bookmaker.

Haras de Sou consists of modern facilities and stables and has been subject to constant development and improvements since Global Farm bought the farm. Every year, new interesting broodmares is introduced here, and all mares are covered with carefully selected French, American and Swedish top-sires

Stéphanie Gandy (French and English speaking) is the manager of the farm.
